When I told some of my blogger peers that I plan to do a short write-up on McDonald's McCafe, their eyes widened with near disbelief. I suppose McCafe (and its ubiquity) doesn't seem to be given much thought to the likes of the more established dessert and cakes places like 1 Caramel, Hilton's Checkers Deli and Royal Copenhagen, just to name a few. However, I feel McCafe's Oreo Cheesecake deserves some mention here, because I found it quite nice actually. It was thick (as I like cheesecakes to be, like the white chocolate one at Cafe Epicurious), it wasn't crumbly like the one at Spinelli, and the different ways that the Oreos were weaved around the cake (soft top, mixed with cheese in centre, harder base) made this quite likeable indeed.
The Darn Good Brownie, as McCafe so names it, was quite a chocolate overload with chocolate sauce all over a warm and rich chocolate brownie-cake, and if you realise it has a thick chocolate top too! A bit too much even for a chocolate addict like me, but if you pair this with some vanilla ice-cream or milkshake it may do the trick.
Price
$4.95 for the Oreo cheesecake
$4.10 for the darn good brownie
