Yet another weekly lunch with the best friend, this time at the relatively new OChre restaurant located on the eleventh floor of Orchard Central. I actually quite like dining in this "vertical" shopping mall (so called because it's one of the rare few that shoppers can go up eleven to twelve floors, and even the roof) because it's generally peaceful and less chaotic than the rest of its counterparts along Orchard Road.
I heard about OChre 1-for-1 pizza and pasta opening special from a friend and so was interested to see how this new restaurant would fare. Some have said that if you're here just for pizzas and pastas you would actually have to sit at the al fresco area, but I don't think this was the case as we were immediately ushered to our comfortable seats indoors.
Complimentary Bread Basket
I was pleasantly surprised to still be served a bread basket (a full one at that) even when we were here for the 1-for-1 promotion and would somehow not be paying anything more than $24. The breads arrived lightly warm and a few (the round ones) had a chilli flavour that I found quite interesting.
Gamberi
Spaghetti with tiger prawns in tomato sauce
My order of the Gamberi pasta didn't delight me as much as I thought it would have, and maybe it was because of the way that the pasta was done, such that the few tiger prawns were deshelled, chopped to small chunks and cooked with the spaghetti. I guess this explains for the less than "springy" or "crunchy" prawns (they turned out pretty limp actually) which I didn't quite like. The only plus point is that the portion of spaghetti was quite filling.
Arrabiata
Fettuccine with sausage and vegetables in arrabiata spicy tomato sauce
The best friend meanwhile had the arrabiata, which she said was alright. Pretty much just sliced sausages with some carrots and capsicums. Thank goodness there's a 1-for-1, otherwise I'm not sure if this was worth it. Perhaps their pizzas might be better.
Service
Excellent. Service here is tops, and they made the polite gesture of asking for feedback on the food, which I politely returned as well. I actually made the (in retrospect, odd) suggestion that they provide an option to diners on whether they would like their prawns deshelled first or not.
Price
About $18++ for each, without the 1-for-1 promotion.
Place
Orchard Central, #11-03/04.
