Ajisen Ramen II

01 July 2009

This popular ramen chain in Singapore needs little introduction and is gaining even more ground with the recent openings of integrated restaurants under the Ajisen Group like Manpuku at Tampines One and Japanese Gourmet Town at Vivocity. I often read very mixed reviews of the ramen here, with the youths noting that it's relatively cheap while the ramen purists advocating more authentic-tasting ones like the one at Tampopo (although I have yet to try the ramen there). Where would you go if you had a ramen craving?

Tom Yum Seafood Ramen: 3.25/5

This turned out better than I expected, because I was curious and a tad doubtful about how a quintessentially Thai favourite could mix with ramen. Good serving of squids and scallops, though the soup itself was quite diluted and at times tasted like it came from mere tom yum stock. Still, I'm quite alright with it.

Deep-Fried Softshell Crab: 4/5

I ordered the lunch set so this side dish came together with the ramen, along with a free refill of hot/cold green tea. The softshell crab was really good because it was both chewy and crispy.

Service
Good.

Price
About $13 for a lunch set, including taxes.

Place
Lot One Choa Chu Kang, #04-11/12.
