Le Grenier à Pain

12 July 2009

It's a real bakery in Paris, France, though I'm not too sure if the owner of Le Grenier à Pain at Sembawang Shopping Centre had the rights to open a similar bakery in Singapore, complete with the same logos and doggy bags. Still, the delightful looking cakes, macarons and carolines were a sight to behold and I couldn't resist but buy one to try.

Choux a la creme caramel: 3.5/5

It comes in a cute little bag!

Me and the boys liked the macarons because of the texture (neither too soft or hard, adequately chewy) and the smooth caramel filling. I found the hazelnut tart base a tad too dry and tasteless though, but I suppose it's meant to be eaten together with the hazelnut mousse, which wasn't all too bad.

I would have bought the Caroline Cake if not for the fact that the shop doesn't accept NETS, but you can see Fen's review on it (and many other cakes from Le Grenier à Pain) here. Be prepared to be dazzled by Fen's blog, it has got to be the most comprehensive dessert blog in Singapore. A true Queen of Desserts, remember to keep it as one of your bookmarks! =)

Price
$7.90.

Place
Sembawang Shopping Centre, #01-01.

Hi,

I read abt this bakery from an interview article (8 Days). The boss of the sembawang outlet franchise it. So they operate "legally". Haha

Hi Carrie,

Thanks for the info. I was thinking about it and I don't think they would be so daring as to imitate it anyway.

Do bake more, some of those cakes look good ;)

Cheers

The boss is quite a sweet young girl =)

I had the same problem with payment. There is not POSB or DBS atm at Sembawang Shopping Centre and the nearest was at the petrol kiosk down the road... Yuan and I were practically counting till the last coin to grab as much cakes as possible...

Lastly, thank you so much for the link and hmm... Queen of desserts is too much for me to handle =)

Hehe, I realize you have been into sweet stuff lately...

Hey Fen,

I didn't know there isn't a POSB ATM in the shopping centre, thank goodness I didn't try to search for it.

Anyway, about the link and "title"... I really can't think of anyone else who blogs about desserts as comprehensively and as well as you. I've to say you're into sweet stuff all the time hahaha.

Good though, always reading your blog for ideas on where to go next for that little something for in betweens or after-meals ;)

Not sure abt now but the easiest way out is either the directory or to ask the tenants...
