Burger Bench & Bar

15 January 2010

If you read my post on The Handburger yesterday, you would remember that it ended off with a promise for a write-up on this "new kid on the block" in Orchard Road. Burger Bench & Bar is opened by restaurateur Willin Low, who is especially known for his burger haven Relish at Cluny Court. Now you can have the burgers (albeit smaller sized) for half the price but still in good taste.

Cheese Burger with Caramelised Onions: 4/5

I wanted something basic, and Burger Bench & Bar sure has a way of telling me that basic can be beautiful. The beef patty is so tender, fresh and meaty that you tend to forget that you're in a fast-food concept place. Put it this way, my burger was less sloppy than the ones from Carl's Jr, thicker than the ones from McDonald's ("mega" double patties don't count) and juicier than the ones from Burger King. I miss my french fries though, those thick potatoey kinds that go so well with burgers. Here you get russet potato chips instead, and I'm not too won over. Still, good burgers considering the price.

Sarawak Black Pepper Beef Burger

The best friend had the black pepper burger, and on first bite she gave her approval to the black pepper gravy. She said that the grounded black peppers gave it an authentic taste, as compared to the usual or typical black pepper sauces that are often more sweet than spicy.

Service
Friendly.

Price
$7.80 for each burger
$1.00 for added sides of chips
$2.50 for a can/cup of coke

Place
Cathay Orchard Cineleisure, #01-02.

Additional Comment
Try the dark chocolate soft-serve ice-cream. People are raving about it.

at astons? i've tried the moomoo burger at vittles, ALSO by leslie tay. that was pretty good stuff too, like the juiciness of the beef patty.

don't think i will be much drawn in by macs, burger king or carl's now haha.

I'm usually not a burger person but somehow I wanna try this! Love the burger I tried at Relish so gonna see how this measures up. Anyway, how come you didn't like the potato chips? I thought they look pretty nice to chew from your photos haha.

hey kaelyn! burger here is smaller than Relish for sure, and the patty a tad thinner. but for the price, quite satisfying. the chips are something new, but i'm just biased towards steak cut fries ;)
